What Ji-Young Ri has shown the world

The owner of Next Media Hong Kong, Lai Chi-ying, was bound in chains and handcuffed by a Hong Kong court on December 11 and escorted to court for questioning on charges of “collusion with foreign countries or forces outside of China. This image instantly spread around the world, and some international human rights organizations questioned the need for the chains and handcuffs. This is a normal society’s way of looking at the evil behavior of the evil Communist Party. A normal society would not even think about the brutal act of chaining and handcuffing a 70-year-old suspect who has no propensity for violence, not to mention the fact that the charges against Li Zhiying are based on the model of collusion with foreign or overseas forces, which is, after all, a matter of political ideology. For the CCP, the pleasure of humiliating the disobedient and the deterrent effect of maintaining tyrannical rule is the source of the pleasure of dictatorship and the most important thing to perpetuate the dictatorship.

The world is outraged by the brutal tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party and has strongly condemned it. Political leaders such as U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo also spoke out immediately, urging the Chinese Communist Party to stop as soon as possible in addition to strongly condemning it, while expressing their admiration for Li Zhiying’s bravery in the face of tyranny. Lai Chi-ying’s ability to command the attention and admiration of the normal world is closely related to the way his character and bottom line were demonstrated in the confrontation. Lai Chi-ying first of all showed a Hong Konger’s firm rejection of the Communist dictatorship. An old man in his seventies undoubtedly showed the most resolute side of Hong Kong’s opposition to the Communist dictatorship. Hong Kong has been under British rule for more than a hundred years, and it can be said that Hong Kong residents have long been immersed in the Western culture of humanism and the spirit of democracy and the rule of law, and have therefore been extremely disgusted and resistant to the tyrannical rule of the Chinese Communist Party that is right in front of them.

The fact that Lai Chi-ying has such a distinctive attitude of resistance to Chinese communist rule is causally related to his family encounter and personal experience. His father died in Hong Kong to escape the brutal rule of the Chinese Communist Party, and his mother was arrested by the Chinese Communist Party when he was seven years old and sent to labor camps. In the 1960s, when tens of millions of people were starving to death in the famine on the mainland, twelve-year-old Lai Chi Ying followed the wave of people fleeing Hong Kong and came to Hong Kong. Hong Kong’s very different social system and sense of security from the mainland, as well as the opportunity to provide an affluent life for the hardworking and progressive, not only let Lai Chi-ying see that people in a democratic and legal society can live as they wish, but also seize the opportunity to shape their own successful lives. Such a stark contrast made Li Zhiying, when faced with the danger of falling into the tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party again, unwilling to wait for death instead of shouting no with all his strength, and thus the world came to know the heroic image of a 70-year-old man who gave up the rest of his life to fight against violence.

Li Zhiying also showed the world the model of an entrepreneur who is a billionaire who, in order to fight against the tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party, is not afraid of the suppression of his business and has exhausted his family’s wealth to fund the democratic and legal forces of society. Zhiying Li is undoubtedly one of the most successful entrepreneurs since he fled from China to Hong Kong. He founded the Giordano clothing brand, which was once popular in China and Hong Kong, and was a famous company in Hong Kong in the 1980s. When the Chinese Communist Party massacred ordinary people on the mainland on June 4, Lai Chi-ying was righteously committed to supporting the people on the mainland, and therefore suffered from the Chinese Communist Party’s suppression and blockade of his business could not continue, Lai Chi-ying turned to the media industry to speak out for social justice and democracy, founding Next Magazine, Next Media, Apple Daily and other media. Lai Chi-ying also heavily subsidized the pro-democracy camp in Hong Kong, and was the largest financier of pro-democracy and pro-democracy activities in Hong Kong. In a Chinese speaking world where it is common for the rich to seek greater wealth through power, Chi-Ying Lai has demonstrated his dignity as a human being and his noble quality of putting power above profit, proving to the world that the Chinese world is not full of people who make a fortune by ignoring social welfare.

With his noble qualities as a human being, his courage beyond ordinary people, and his unrestrained wealth and interests, Zhiying Lai not only showed the world that he was called a hero by international leaders such as Pompeo, but also showed the world the true face of the evil Chinese Communist Party that persecuted him so cruelly. In front of a man who stands up for his freedom, dignity and rights, above his personal safety, wealth and rich life, the brutality and viciousness of the Chinese Communist Party only reveals its obscene and vile nature in a high profile, exposing the hideous face of an evil force that tries to extinguish the humanity of society with its bestiality.
