U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in quarantine, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday. Previously, Pompeo had allegedly been in contact with a person who had tested positive for a novel Coronavirus.
Reuters quoted a State Department spokeswoman the same day as saying that the secretary’s novel Coronavirus tested negative. He remains in isolation under CDC guidelines and is being closely monitored by the State Department’s medical team, the spokesman said.
The spokesman also said they could not name the infected person for privacy reasons. The spokesman did not say when or where Secretary Pompeo came into contact with the infected person.
The Washington Post reports that Pompeo canceled a live speech scheduled for Tuesday at an indoor holiday party at the State Department.
CNBC reported that U.S. President Donald Trump will hold a cabinet meeting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, and it is not clear whether Pompeo will cancel the meeting.
