Stroke precursory notices hand hemp, vertigo! Dr. Ri: Drinking it to prevent stroke reduces the risk by 35 percent

According to the results of Taiwan’s first large-scale public Stroke Awareness Survey, a whopping 93.9% of people have heard about stroke, but 50.9% of people cannot correctly answer the question about the cause of stroke. A further 31.3% of the population had no idea which diseases might cause stroke. In addition, the survey also showed that 79.3 percent of families with stroke patients said they had a financial burden, and 46.1 percent of them felt the burden was very high. The results of this survey show that people’s awareness of prevention and treatment of stroke is not enough, which is quite worthy of attention.

Although people may not know much about stroke, they are afraid that they or their families will have a stroke. Therefore, most people will ask what they can eat to prevent stroke, because eating is closely related to life.

Now there’s a Japanese study that says,

Daily intake of coffee and green tea may prevent strokes

The study appears in the Journal of the Ame-Rican Heart Association’s Stroke.

The study recruited more than 80,000 men and women, aged 45 to 74, and asked them whether they drank green tea or coffee regularly over a 13-year period. All the information was used to analyze the relationship between diet and disease, said Dr. Yoshihiro Kokubo of the National Center for Brain and Cardiovascular Disease. Age, sex and lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, weight and exercise were removed from the study.

Those who drank two or three cups of green tea a day had a 14 percent lower risk of stroke than those who drank none at all. People who drank four or more cups of green tea a day had a lower risk of stroke. People who drank one cup of green tea a day also had a reduced risk of stroke if they had a cerebral hemorrhage, while those who drank more than four cups a day had a 35 percent lower risk.

Those who drank three or more cups of coffee a week had a more than one-tenth lower risk of stroke than those who did not drink coffee at all, especially those with ischemic strokes, who drank more than one cup of coffee a day had a two-tenth lower risk.

It is possible that substances in green tea or coffee that protect blood vessels or suppress blood sugar levels may lower the risk of stroke, Dr. Kokubo’s team said.

Although prevention is important, it is important to remind people that if the following symptoms occur unfortunately, including slanted mouth and eyes, weakness or numbness of one or both limbs, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, drooling, dizziness, vomiting, headache, unsteady gait, dyspnea, etc., it may be a sign of stroke, it is best to seek medical advice immediately. In particular, patients who have had a small stroke, if not actively managed, the future stroke rate is 4 to 5 times the general population, to pay special attention.
