Japan added 3,886 new cases in Tokyo for the fourth day in a row to exceed 1,000 cases.

Japan’s 4th wave of Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) continues to heat up, with 3,886 new cases confirmed today (17) nationwide, and a new high of 1,410 cases in the capital city of Tokyo in the past six months, exceeding 1,000 cases for the fourth consecutive day.

The Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) reported that 1410 new cases were confirmed in Tokyo today, the highest since January 21 this year when 1485 cases were recorded. The epidemic is also expanding in Kanagawa and other prefectures in the metropolitan area, with 539 new cases in Kanagawa, 244 in Chiba and 318 in Saitama.

Currently, Tokyo and Okinawa prefectures are implementing the 4th “emergency declaration situation”, while Kanagawa and 3 other prefectures are implementing “priority measures to prevent the spread of the disease”. The number of cases in Okinawa Prefecture has increased by 81 today.

Osaka Prefecture, which is also implementing “anti-spreading measures,” reported 380 cases today, while neighboring Kyoto Prefecture and Hyogo Prefecture also reported 52 and 122 cases, respectively.

The total number of confirmed cases in Japan is 838,396, and the total number of people who have died is 15,046. (All exclude the Diamond Princess)
