Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier, commander of the 11th Space Warning Squadron in the U.S. Air Force, has been dismissed for criticizing the U.S. military and claiming that Marxist ideology is becoming more prevalent in the military, a spokesman for the U.S. Air Force has confirmed.
According to Military.com and CNN, Lohmeier published his own book, “The Irresistible Revolution: The Conquest of Marxism and the Demise of the U.S. Army,” without notice, claiming that he saw neo-Marxism gaining influence and popularity in the military.
When Lohmeier appeared on Podcast to promote the book, he even emphasized the increasingly leftist style of American institutions, including universities, the media and military units, which he believed was the main cause of America’s division.
After the incident, a spokesman for the U.S. Air Force confirmed that Lt. Col. Lohmeier was removed from his post Friday by Lt. Gen. Stephen N. Whiting, commander-in-chief of Space Operations Command, because of a lack of confidence in his leadership.
A Defense Department official told CNN that it was unclear whether Lohmeier consulted with his superiors before publishing the book, and that the next investigation would take into account the rules, policies and other elements that were followed in publishing the book.
Another DOD official noted that the personnel transfer was indeed based on Lohmeier’s recent public comments on the program, and that Lt. Gen. Whiting used his Command Directed Investigation (CDI) authority directly to investigate the comments to determine whether they constituted prohibited political partisan activity.
