Japanese study: 70% of diagnosed cases under 20 years old are “family transmission”

According to the Mainichi Shimbun, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare released yesterday that a research team from Fukushima Prefectural Medical University analyzed data from the Japanese Society of Pediatrics and found that of the 1,662 infected patients under the age of 20 in the country, about half of them were asymptomatic and 1,464 (90% of the total) could be cured without treatment, but there were as many as 1,171 cases, about 70% of which were infected from within the family, of which more About 70% of the cases came from within the family, and 517 of them were infected by the father.

The data also found that of the 491 new cases due to increased transmission of the variant, the number of cases in children and the number of patients with severe disease also had the same tendency. In this regard, Tomohiro Katsuta, a member of the research team, warned, “It is important not to take it lightly. It is important for adults to prevent the introduction of the virus into the home as an important part of preventing children from contracting neocrown pneumonia.”
