Former Deputy Mayor of Changsha Expelled from the Party for Possession of Books Outside of China

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Supervisory Commission (NSC) reported on Thursday that Chen Zehui, a former executive deputy mayor of Changsha, Hunan Province, has been expelled from the CPC, one of the reasons being that he bought and brought into the country books with “serious political issues”.

The report said that one of the “crimes” of Chen Ze-Hun is violation of political discipline, private purchase of books and magazines with “serious political problems” from abroad, and long-term reading, private storage, he also destroyed and transferred the evidence materials involved in the case, confront the organization review. However, the contents of the books and magazines mentioned by the authorities are not clear to the public. In addition, the government also accused him of bribery, violation of integrity discipline, illegal profit-making activities, and so on.

Chen Zethui was arrested in April this year on suspicion of serious disciplinary violations, and authorities recently arrested him on suspicion of accepting bribes.

Beijing authorities have tightened their control over the ideology of local officials in recent years. Domestic media reported that a number of officials in Guizhou, Chongqing, and other locations have also recently been fired for “reading foreign books with serious political problems.
