The Indian Express, an English-language daily newspaper that circulates in nine major cities in India, recently used a photo of Russian President Vladimir Putin in a story about sexual assault.
Indian readers and international media discovered that the Indian Express newspaper used a photo of Russian President Vladimir Putin instead of the suspect in an April 7 edition of the paper, when the Delhi High Court issued a warrant for his arrest on bail for alleged sexual assault.
After the news broke, the Indian Express issued a statement through its official Twitter account, saying that the online version of the story had not been mistakenly planted, but that the paper version of the story had printed the photo of Russian President Vladimir Putin due to a technical error, and that the Indian Express would like to offer its sincere apologies for any disturbance caused, and that the necessary follow-up process was underway.
Many Indian netizens think this incident is quite ridiculous, “how can the photo of another head of state be misused”, “I hope Putin did not see”, “scared me, I thought something had happened “, but some netizens thought it was harmless, claiming that “I did finish reading this news because of Putin”, “This photo with this news article is really interesting”, “It’s nothing It’s just the wrong (photo)”.
