Senator: Wuhan Institute of Virus receives funding from the U.S. National Institutes of Health

U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-SC) told Breitbart News Wednesday (March 17) that a new investigation reveals that the U.S. federal government previously provided funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for research on bat coronavirus.

“Through our investigation and the work of some excellent investigators at all levels of the press, we found that the U.S. government had a practice of granting money to the Wuhan Institute of Virology through the National Institutes of health (NIH),” Joni Ernst said, “and that this project that they were conducting in Wuhan was funded by funding from the U.S. taxpayer.”

“So, yes, we’ve actually subsidized research at the Wuhan Virus Laboratory, and what a terrible thing that is. For years, we actually had U.S. diplomats warning us of the dangers of that lab, but we were still subsidizing it,” she said.

“I would ask the Office of Health and Human Services Investigations to investigate and to do an in-depth study. I also have a bill that would require all of our federally supported state agency programs to be labeled with a price tag so that taxpayers can easily find it.”

Ernst said there is still no way to confirm whether the Wuhan Virus Laboratory is linked to the coronavirus pandemic, “but the potential is there, and regardless of the coronavirus, we know our money is pouring into communist China to support this research being done at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. How disappointing that we are providing dollars to the Communist Chinese when we should be using that money in our own country and conducting our own research with our own resources. …… This is outrageous. I don’t care if it’s 10 cents or how much. Regardless of the amount of funding, this is still outrageous.”

This comes on the heels of several media reports that the NIH, through the Ecological Health Alliance (EHA), a left-wing New York City nonprofit that says there is a link between “climate change” and pandemics, has given at least $600,000 to the Wuhan-based virology lab.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the EHA was unable to say whether the money it sent to the Chinese Communist government’s Wuhan lab came from a grant from the NIH, and all of the EHA’s income comes from government contracts and grants.
