RT: “Our account has been hacked!” Fort Bragg, the Fort Bragg military base where the U.S. Army Special Operations Command is located, posted inappropriate tweets on its official Twitter account

“Russia Today (RT) reported on 21 October that the Fort Bragg military base posted several tweets containing “obscene information” on its official Twitter account that day, prompting a debate among netizens. Many users took screenshots of the tweets and posted them on social media, and it was also discovered that the base’s account had interacted with a pornographic blogger that day.

Shortly after, the Fort Bragg military base deleted the tweets and tweeted an explanation that their Twitter account had been “hacked.”

“As many of you are aware, multiple inappropriate tweets were posted on our account this afternoon. This was not the actions of our staff. It’s because our account was hacked. We apologize to those of you who have been following our account. We have now secured our account and are investigating the matter.”

Shortly after posting the tweet, RT said the Fort Bragg military base logged out of its Twitter account. The base’s Twitter page now reads, “This account does not exist,” and the account’s avatar and all previous posts have disappeared.

Many netizens didn’t buy the explanation and the way the military base at Fort Bragg was handled.

One user called the base “lying” and said sarcastically that the base staff might have forgotten to switch accounts.

“One of the social media workers at the Fort Bragg base may not have realized that they were logged into the wrong account. Wow. The base then lied about the account being hacked and logged it off. (Double wow!)”

“If they don’t have to lie to save face, it’s a little more believable.”

Some netizens ridiculed that the Fort Bragg base would eventually find out that the “hacker” was themselves. This was followed by a funny picture of a “man looking in the mirror”.

“The Fort Bragg base eventually found the hacker.”

Someone else gushed about how hackers have been so busy lately. ……
