China’s leaders have announced a target for gross domestic product (GDP) growth of more than 6 percent this year, a March 5 Wall Street Journal news release said, adding that while the target is relatively modest, it still indicates optimism after the new crown Epidemic that has battered the global economy over the past year.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang announced Friday in Beijing that he will target economic growth of more than 6 percent this year, which is well below most economists’ average expectation that China’s economy will grow at least 8 percent this year. China is now the world’s second-largest economy.
Even so, many economists had predicted Beijing would abandon the numerical target altogether after uncertainty over the epidemic pushed China to abandon setting a growth target for the year last year for the first Time since 1994.
