Pompeo CPAC Speaks U.S. Unlikely to Return to Cowardly Policies

Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told the National Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Saturday (Feb. 27) that strength is what keeps the bad guys at bay, and weakness does nothing.

As the 70th secretary of state who just left office, Pompeo tweeted before his speech that because he is no longer a diplomat, he can now speak boldly at CPAC.

In his speech, Pompeo counted the successes of the Trump administration’s out-of-the-box approach when he was secretary of state. While some people kept warning the Trump Administration to keep sending money to Iran, not to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, not to negotiate with North Korea, and not to touch the Middle East because of the fear of “war,” the Trump administration made a bold breakthrough and succeeded not only in solving these difficult issues, but also in not starting a war.

He added that Trump has protected the United States from the Chinese Communist Party; and the Trump administration has released a clear signal – the bad guys around the world will pay a huge price if they dare to touch the United States; strength is the only way to stand up to the bad guys, weakness will not do anything.

“China (the Chinese Communist Party) depends on us more than we depend on them.” Pompeo said in his remarks.

He also mentioned Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian general who was killed by a U.S. drone, and how the Trump administration got ahead of Soleimani’s attempts to go after the United States and hurt Americans.

“So in the end, he (Soleimani) didn’t get to cause any more trouble for Americans or anybody else.” Pompeo teased. The move was likewise supported by the vast majority of people, including liberals.

In addition, Pompeo mentioned that the Trump administration’s several meetings with North Korea’s top leaders and bringing back American hostages held in North Korea and Iran are practicing American values and the America First policy.

Pompeo said, “The America First (policy) requires real courage, like the Secretary of State needs to go deep into the enemy’s cave and then also have a president behind him who supports the Secretary of State.”

He said the Trump administration’s America First policy has done that by allowing all ethnicities to go out and work, focusing on the U.S. economy, securing the border and giving everyone a chance to work; and that America First benefits both the U.S. and the world, and that the entire world benefits only when freedom is secured and when the U.S. is fearless, bold and strong.

Pompeo criticized Biden, saying that the Biden Administration killed thousands of energy industry jobs only one month after Trump left office, and that politicians who suggested that energy workers switch to solar panels to compete with China were even more credulous.

Pompeo comes from the energy-heavy state of Kansas and is well aware of the local energy industry. He said it’s not that he doesn’t care about the environment, but that the government should create more jobs for Americans.

He said Biden’s “Build Back Better” policy is unworkable, and the U.S. cannot go back to the past – back to apologizing to Iran, back to choking off oil pipelines on its own, back to letting the Chinese Communist Party’s trade policies choke off U.S. jobs, the United States must respond forcefully.

At one point in his speech, Pompeo flirted with the distinction of being called the worst secretary of state by the Communist Chinese media and the leftist U.S. media for defending American values, a distinction that earned him a roar of support from the entire audience.

At the end of his speech, Pompeo again stressed the importance of faith and the importance of upholding traditional American values.

“Our rights come from the Creator, not from any government.” He said. “I am honored to be a member of the most forward-thinking administration in American history.”
