Wuhan start driverless cab test ride program netizens: afraid to sit

Wuhan City in Hubei Province will launch a free trial ride program for driverless cabs next Thursday (25), when the public can make reservations via a mobile App and experience them in the core area of Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone.

Authorities have now deployed 42 driverless cabs for trial operations at six major stops and 15 open test sections in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone.

The Dongfeng Fengshen Robotaxi is equipped with three LIDARs, eight lenses, satellite positioning navigation and an artificial intelligence decision-making system on the roof of the vehicle. Some test passengers said that the speed of the car is not particularly fast, the brake is stable, “sitting very comfortable”, and that the vehicle will also be properly slowed down when encountering pedestrians. But some netizens bluntly said, “high technology has its advantages and disadvantages, or dare not do white mice”, “get on the car or buy good insurance”.

At present, the test ride program has 6 to 10 designated routes to choose from, but based on regulatory requirements, the car will still be configured with a “safety officer” to ensure that in case of emergency can be taken over by hand car.
