India launches “vaccine diplomacy” against China

India will supply millions of doses of the new crown vaccine to South Asian countries in the coming weeks to counter China’s influence and dominance in the region, Indian government sources said on Thursday (Jan. 21).

According to Reuters, the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India (Serum Institute of India) production of AstraZeneca (AstraZeneca) vaccine, has begun to arrive in the Maldives, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal and other countries.

India has fulfilled its commitment to provide vaccines to people,” tweeted Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. India will start supplying to neighboring countries from Jan. 20.”

Nepal’s health and Population Minister Hridayesh Tripathi said, “The Indian government has shown goodwill by giving away vaccines.”

Reports say that India’s relations with Nepal are strained due to territorial disputes. In addition, India is concerned about China’s expanding political and economic influence in Nepal.

China has pledged to Nepal to help it deal with the New crown outbreak and is currently waiting for Nepal to approve its authorization for the use of the Sinopharm vaccine.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Thursday that China agreed to provide 500,000 doses of China National Pharmaceutical Group’s New Crown vaccine free of charge to the Pakistani side by Jan. 31.

China has now sent millions of doses of New Crown vaccine produced by China’s Kexing Biologicals and Sinopharm to the rest of the world, but the vaccine seems to be less effective than it should be.

According to Indian media reports, India’s New Crown vaccine is safe and reliable, with few side effects. (side-effects are negligible)

Reuters reports that India has been trying for years to keep pace with Chinese investments in countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Indian diplomats say these countries are eager to revitalize their tourism-dependent economies, so their demand for new vaccines also provides a way for the Modi government to “regain lost ground.

Notably, a fire broke out at the Serum Institute of India on Thursday afternoon local Time, killing five people so far.

Serum Institute of India said the cause of the fire is not yet known, but the fire will not affect the production of the new crown vaccine.
