Former National Security Advisor Bolton on Communist China Sanctions List: Honorable Certification to Defend American Freedom

As soon as the Trump administration handed over the reins of power, China immediately launched an “autumn reckoning” by announcing early this morning (21) sanctions against former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former national security adviser John Bolton and 28 other senior Trump Administration officials, banning them and their families from “entering mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau,” as well as banning related companies from doing business in China, which Bolton said was “great news for the inauguration” and that he was willing to accept the “honorable certification”.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement this morning, saying: “In the past few years, some anti-China politicians have planned and promoted a series of crazy acts out of selfish political interests and prejudice and hatred against China, disregarding the interests of the Chinese and American people, which have seriously interfered in China’s internal affairs, harmed China’s interests, hurt the feelings of the Chinese people, and seriously damaged Sino-US relations. The Chinese government’s determination to defend the interests of national sovereignty, security and development is unwavering. China has decided to impose sanctions on 28 people who have seriously violated China’s sovereignty and bear primary responsibility in China-related issues.”

The long departed former national security adviser Bolton is also on the sanctions list, Bolton was assigned as national security adviser by Trump in April 2018, but it was rumored that Bolton was tougher on China than Trump, triggering a suspicion between the two, leaving his post in September 2019, Trump announced the firing of Bolton, although Bolton said he offered to resign the night before.

After China announced sanctions against Bolton, Bolton immediately responded on Twitter that he had been sanctioned by the Chinese Communist government for “egregious behavior,” which was “great news for the inauguration! Bolton laughed and said, “I would like to accept this honorable certification as a testament to my tireless efforts to defend American freedom.”
