What is the origin of the Dominion voting system, accused by Trump of vote tampering?

President Trump has accused Dominion Voting Systems of tampering with millions of electronic ballots, and here is a brief account from AFP of what Dominion is all about.

●What is Dominion?

It is a Canadian company founded in 2003, with U.S. headquarters in Denver, Colorado’s largest city.

Dominion specializes in election technology, with more than 71 million U.S. voters using the company’s technology in 2016, making it the No. 2 company in the U.S. voting technology market, behind only Election Systems & Software.

● What is the Trump camp alleging?

Trump tweeted in all caps on 12 December that “Dominion removed a total of 2.7 million votes cast for Trump nationwide.” He also charged that 221,000 votes cast for him in Pennsylvania were diverted to Biden, a Democrat.

Pennsylvania is an important battleground state that ended up being won by Biden.

Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani echoed Trump’s claim today on Fox News that “this is a foreign company, with close ties to Venezuela and therefore to China, that used software from a Venezuelan company that was used to steal elections in other countries”.

But when pressed further on what evidence there was, Giuliani said, “We have evidence that we can’t disclose yet.”

● What result does this bring?

Federal and state election officials released a statement refuting Trump’s allegations against Dominion.

The Election Infrastructure Government Coordinating Council (EIGC) and the Election Infrastructure Sector Coordinating Executive Committee (EISEC), which is the executive arm of the Election Infrastructure Sector Coordinating (ExecutiveCommittees) members said, “There is no evidence of any voting system to remove, reduce or tamper with ballots, or any fraud.”

The Pennsylvania Department of State also refuted Trump’s allegations.
