Google‘s YouTube launched its short video service Shorts in mid-September last year, saying that short videos are “a new way to express yourself in 15 seconds”.
According to an AFP report, YouTube Shorts has been viewed 3.5 billion times a day, challenging Shake TikTok. The report said the YouTube platform recently launched the short video service Shorts to play against TikTok, and the platform chief said on Tuesday that it is currently in beta in India with 3.5 billion views per day. “Shorts allows people around the world to watch short videos on YouTube. To date, the total number of daily views of videos on the new player is a staggering 3.5 billion!” Wojciechowski added: “We’re looking forward to expanding Shorts to more markets this year.”
Google’s YouTube launched the Shorts feature in mid-September last year, calling short videos “a new way to express yourself in 15 seconds. This new feature will be directly integrated into YouTube’s existing user interface, and is currently only open for testing in India.
It is believed that Google’s new video format is intended to compete with TikTok, which is popular with Gen Z and currently has 700 million users worldwide.
The news does not specify whether the 3.5 billion daily views of Shorts are in India or on a global scale. India is introducing a ban on the use of more than 50 mobile apps from China, including ShakeTok, the source said.
