Over 1,000 workers march to city hall in Kunshan Apple factory for unpaid wages

On December 31, 2020, the last day of the year, the Apple foundry in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, Shishuo defaulted on their wages, and the workers had no way to collect their wages. More than 1,000 workers marched en masse to the city hall and were dispersed and arrested by police sent by the authorities.

Netizens disclosed that these workers were unable to get the return fee, or the difference in wages, promised by the company. The company stipulated that the workers would be paid tens of thousands of yuan for 55 working days, but many of them did not get it now, and it is said that their wages will be reduced by 10%.

The video posted by netizens shows that on December 31, many workers collectively went to Seoshuo, an Apple foundry located in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, to collect their wages because they were in arrears, shouting slogans and demanding that the company pay the outstanding wages.

Seeing that Seishuo did not want to solve the problem for the workers at all, the workers decided to go to the city government and ask the government to help with the unpaid wages. Thousands of workers marched en masse along the main road to the city hall to demonstrate and protest.

However, the police were waiting for the workers, and some of them were arrested by the police while they were still on their way to the city hall.

Many police officers were deployed by the authorities to surround the marching workers. The police also broadcasted on loud speakers, asking Seok’s workers to disperse.

Many workers were arrested by the police and some were beaten.

A similar situation occurred at Chang Shuo Electronics, an Apple foundry in Shanghai. According to the Central News Agency, on December 19, a labor dispute erupted at the Shanghai Changshu plant of Apple’s foundry with thousands of temporary workers protesting. Internet video showed numerous police officers arriving to maintain security and people being beaten on the ground.

An investigator tweeted that the temporary workers had originally signed a contract with Chanso to work 60 days (excluding holidays) and the company would give a job search allowance (rebate) of about RMB 11,000, but the company refused to pay the workers the rebate.

It is reported that ChangShuo Electronic Technology in Shanghai and ShiShuo Electronics in Kunshan, Jiangsu are both companies under the Taiwan-funded PEGATRON United Technologies.
