Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley warned Monday (28) that despite a history of failure, socialism has become mainstream in 2020 and that Democratic politicians are making it their default economic policy.
Haley tweeted on Monday, “2020 is the year socialism becomes mainstream. This dangerous ideology, which has failed and destroyed countless lives everywhere it has been tried, is now becoming the Democratic Party’s default economic policy.”
She added, “This frightening trend threatens the future of every American.”
Haley made similar comments about socialism last week while expressing support for Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-N.Y.). The latter will face off against his Democratic opponent, Raphael Warnock, in the Jan. 5 U.S. Senate runoff. Loeffler is seeking re-election this time.
The Democrats believe that anyone who disagrees with them should be silenced,” Haley said. They believe that we should stop defunding the Police and stop caring about the people who serve us. They believe that socialism is the new way of life. They believe that you should leave your lives and your health care in the hands of the government.”
Haley served two terms as governor of South Carolina. She has been an outspoken defender of President Trump‘s foreign policy and his handling of the economy. At the 2020 Republican National Convention, she described former Vice President Joe Biden as a man beholden to radical progressives and their socialist agenda.
“Their vision for America is socialism. We know socialism has failed everywhere.” Haley said at the time, “They want to tell Americans how to live and how to think. They want the government to take over health care. They want to ban fracking (fracking) and kill millions of jobs. They want to raise taxes dramatically on working families.”
Haley’s comments come as a progressive wing continues to move the Democratic Party to the left. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, while running as a moderate, ultimately adopted an economic platform that incorporated and gave a major role to the ideas of progressive Senators Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), promising a federal minimum wage of $15 an hour and promising $4 trillion in federal investments in health care, education, infrastructure and clean energy.
Earlier this month, young progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Calif.) said in an interview with news site The Intercept that it is time for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to step down from their leadership positions to make room for new leadership.
Ocasio-Cortez also talked about replacing moderate Rep. Richie Neal (D-Calif.) as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
