China’s General Administration of Customs today announced the suspension of log imports from the Australian states of New South Wales and Western Australia. Since the end of October, China has suspended the import of logs from Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia on the grounds of pest problems.
The General Administration of Customs of China’s “12360 Customs Hotline” WeChat public number 24 issued the above notice, and said that Tianjin, Nanjing, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Huangpu Customs recently intercepted live forest pests in the logs imported from the two places, in order to prevent the introduction of harmful organisms, in accordance with the rules decided to suspend the import of logs from these two places in Australia.
The General Administration of Customs of China said that the relevant situation has been notified to the Australian authorities; Chinese customs will suspend the acceptance of December 22 (inclusive) after the departure of logs from New South Wales, Australia, Western Australia customs declaration.
At the same time, the General Administration of Customs of China also asked the Customs to further strengthen the import of Australian logs quarantine, found harmful organisms should be sent to the laboratory identification; if confirmed as quarantine pests, all the relevant goods for the return of treatment, and promptly report the situation to the General Administration of Animal and Plant Division.
