Preface A period of time to the hospital to visit friends, run into a serious disease fund-raising organization staff is holding leaflets in the ward one by one to ask whether need fund-raising. Before long, another agency staff came to the ward to make sales pitches. This surprised me. I have always believed that fundraising for serious diseases is similar to public welfare projects. Only when patients have no money to see a doctor and have no way out, they will launch crowdfunding online. If it’s free help, why sell it this way? With doubts, I added a staff member to the WeChat, and after several days of communication, I finally had the opportunity to interview him. Here’s what he said.
He took the money he had raised and went to play mahjong
In the winter of 2018, I was hired as the local operation manager of a famous free serious illness fundraising platform in China. He said it was called “manager”, but in fact he had no one under his charge and no office. His daily job was to go to the hospital ward with the company’s “serious illness fundraising” flyer and ask the patients or their families if they needed help.
One morning shortly after I started my job, there was a constant “ding ding” in the WeChat. I was arguing with a woman who had just had a craniotomy. She thought I was a thief and wouldn’t let me leave the room. While she was drinking, I took out my phone and took a look. Someone sent me five messages in a row:
‘Are you there?
“What about people?
“I need to raise money. Where are you?”
“Do you want money to raise money? Will there be any handling charge when the money arrives?”
“How much money can you really raise with this online donation?”
I thought to myself, this person is too direct — fundraising for a serious illness usually relies on donations from friends and messages forwarded, depending on how much is spread and whether the “pain point” can arouse public empathy. As a staff member, I’m not sure how much will be raised in the end.
“I asked you — if you had your work id, why did you put it in your bag without wearing it?” The woman is still yelling at me.
I had to lie: “I wear inconvenient work.”
In fact, not wearing a work permit is required by the company, for reasons I don’t know, the leadership only said to go to the hospital to “keep a low profile”.
The female patient obviously does not believe: “a few days ago the mobile phone of the patient friend of the bed next to me was stolen, it must be someone like you who often come to hang out in the ward to steal…”
My phone rang again, and the same person sent another message: “A friend of mine has raised more than 160,000 on your platform. I wonder if there is a basis for this amount.”
I was furious — the motive was too obvious. I put my phone away and asked the woman, “How do you get me to leave?”
Female patient thought to think: “take your ID card, our ward has something to lose to look for you.”
After taking the picture, I walked out of the room and let out a big sigh. After thinking about it, I took out my phone and replied to the man, “I don’t know exactly how much I can raise. I can only help you apply.”
After 5 minutes, but no reply, I had to ask again: “Can you tell me what’s wrong with you or your relatives? How much money has been spent on the disease?”
After about 10 minutes, there was still no reply. I wanted to delete him, but in the end I held back. My salary is tied to my performance, and I get a commission of around 100 yuan for every 2,000 yuan I “help” a patient with a fundraising task.
I continued, “How much do you want to raise?”
This time, he was quick to reply: “At least 100,000. I broke my foot as a child and needed crutches to walk. Not long ago I went to Beijing to pat CT, they said that it could be cured, then you don’t need crutches to walk, the treatment cost of about 80,000 yuan.
Looks like he’s been on the line. It was just a contest with me, and I was clearly defeated: “The treatment cost only 80,000 yuan, then why do you want to raise 100,000 yuan?”
“Isn’t there a round-trip fare to Beijing and the cost of living in hospital?”
I was speechless and had to ask him to come to me in the hall of the inpatient building with his materials.
About half an hour later, I was in front of the building when I saw a man in a thick black cotton pajamas walking toward the gate with a cane. His long hair was pulled back to show a distinct hairline, his cheekbones were prominent, and his face was flushed. Every step forward, he moved the crutch on his right hand first, then his right foot, then his body tilted downward to the right.
I stepped forward to introduce myself and helped him to an aluminum-striped chair in the waiting area of the lobby. After pleasantries, I learned that his name was Yang Xuyou. I explained to him again that we were helping him raise money for free, and we would give him as much as we could raise, without any handling charge. But how much money can be raised depends on the results.
Yang Xuyou listened to my words obviously unhappy, I repeatedly explained, he reluctantly agreed to try.
I took his mobile phone, scanned the QR code we designated, and entered the page of “XX Fundraising” to fill in the information. Under the fund-raising target amount, I filled in “100,000” according to his meaning. Next, I needed to know about his illness and family situation, and then filled in one by one truthfully.
Yang xuyou said that when he was a child, he and a few small friends in the stairwell playing, accidentally fell down from the above. At that time, the family was poor, and many brothers and sisters, so his parents just took him to a small clinic for a simple dressing, where the specific injury, whether there is a fracture, he did not know. But since then, his right foot has failed and he has to walk with the help of crutches.
I have some doubts: “that you this injury also have more than 30 years, why now just want to cure leg?”
“Yang Xuyou said helplessly,” I didn’t have the money before, but now the policy is good, you can help me raise money for free.
“I understand that, but I can’t write ‘Now that the policy is in place, I’ll raise money to watch my feet’ as a headline, right? That way, if someone sees it, they won’t click on it, and they won’t donate.”
“This I don’t understand, you are a staff member, otherwise you help me think of one?” Yang Xuyou looked at me.
“I smiled and said:” This can not rely on thinking, or according to your own situation to write.
Yang Xuyou thought about it and said, “How about you write that I want to heal my leg and take care of my old father and mother? Or my son’s mother ran away with someone, so I can heal my leg and earn money to support my son?”
I stared at Yang Xuyou and asked, “Are you making this up?” I explained to him that the fund raising project would need to be certified by relatives and friends so that many people would donate money. If it is made up, first of all, relatives and friends of this level can not pass, let alone spread out.
Yang Xuyou had to tell me truthfully that he had neither married nor had any children. His parents were old but in good health.
I was silent for a while, thought about it and asked, “Do your feet still hurt now?”
Yang Xuyou knew that I meant something, quickly nodded: “of course it hurts. It hurts when you walk, and it also hurts when it rains on a cloudy day.”
I thought about it and wrote on the headline: “Foot that hurt for over 30 years. Now I want to cure it.”
Then I asked Yang: “What do you do now and how much do you earn a month?”
As a fundraising officer, I have to know about the client’s finances. And these, can rely on the person’s narrative to fill in. We cannot verify through official channels how many houses the person owns, what price car he drives, how much money he has in the bank. As for information verification, the company leader once said in a veiled way: as long as you don’t have two apartments or more than 200,000 cars, you can apply for serious illness fundraising. After all, everyone still needs to live a normal life.
Yang Xuyou looked sad and said, “What kind of work can I do like this? I have no income now.”
“And how do you live?”
“With my father and mother, they have a retirement salary, occasionally give me a little money.”
“Do parents have good retirement wages? How big is your house now?
All of a sudden, Yang xuyou looked on alert: “Their salary is not high, only 3,000 yuan a month, and they live in a house over 60 square meters. And what does that have to do with me? I also have two brothers and a sister. You think they’re going to give me everything because of my disability? Not at all!”
It seems that Yang xuyou has some dissatisfaction with his parents. But as a fundraiser for the seriously ill, I didn’t want to get too involved in the personal lives of the people involved, so I let it go. After I had taken a picture of his life, I asked him to take out his medical records. Yang Xuyou took out two pieces of paper from his pocket. I opened it and saw that the medical record was written by a hospital with a strange name in Beijing, which looked very irregular. I looked at Yang Xuyou, thought for a moment, but refrained from asking him — after all, his foot disability was a fait ‘it ‘fact.
After uploading the medical record and the doctor’s certificate, I used his mobile phone to bind his bank card. I showed it to him, and after he confirmed it, I was going to post it on his WeChat. Yang Xuyou hurriedly stop me: “don’t worry, I want to block some people first.”
I didn’t want my impending commission to slip away, so I asked, “Who are you blocking?”
Yang Xuyou looked at me: “My father and mother, two brothers, and sister to block.”
I was puzzled. “Why? It will be much easier to get through their retweets.”
Yang Xuyou hesitated for a while, do not want to explain too much, just pass a sentence: “this you need not manage.” Then he grabbed the phone from my hand and walked away on crutches.
In the evening, I saw Yang Xuyou’s serious illness fundraising project in the circle of friends. In order to encourage his circle of friends to donate, I took the lead in donating 20 yuan. After that, Yang sent the message once every morning, noon and night, and said “thank you” and other words of gratitude at the bottom of each donor.
About half a month later, Yang managed to raise more than 3,500 yuan. Seeing that he was far away from his target of 100,000 yuan, he applied for the “fund collection account”.
Three days later, Yang xuyou told me on WeChat that he would like to apply again — the “serious illness fundraising” can be launched unlimited times because the patient may suffer from worsening condition or the money raised is too far from the target amount. However, repeated fundraising will definitely cause the antipathy of the circle of friends, the amount of money raised will also be greatly reduced.
I still agreed to Yang xuyou’s request, after all, I only need to help him raise 2,000 yuan for a commission. But for the second time, Yang only managed to raise 25 yuan in a few days.
One afternoon, Yang xuyou’s WeChat sent me a message: “are you a staff member of XX chip?”
I am a little confused, then the other side sent another: “you know my brother with the money raised why go to?”
I just know, the original message is Yang Xuyou’s brother.
“XX fundraising” expressly provides that the funds raised must be used for the treatment of the parties concerned. But to be honest, for a patient like Yang Xuyou who has not raised the target amount, his leg injury is not life-threatening, so I know that he will certainly not take the money to treat his leg — but I have no right to interfere with what he does with it.
Just as I was thinking about how to respond, the other side sent me another message: “Let me tell you, he took the money to buy a lottery ticket and play mahjong. Now I still owe thousands of dollars to others, and they have come to my house to ask for it!”
I thought about it and replied, “It’s true that your brother has a disability. As for his motives in raising money, I can’t really tell.”
“But why do you want to help him raise money again and again? Do you realize that we are a disgrace to our family. A lot of our neighbors are talking behind our backs.”
I got a little angry, but tried to be peaceful in my response: “I only helped him raise it twice. As his family, why can’t you help him heal his feet?”
Unexpectedly, after a while, Yang Xuyou’s brother sent me five links of “Serious illness fundraising” — three of which were from two other fundraising platforms and were competitors of us — and it was obvious that Yang Xuyou sought them out as well as me.
“I tell you this: More than 10 years ago, my parents raised money for him to look after his feet, but he trusted others to make a lot of money, so he ended up in a pyramid scheme and lost his money. A few years ago, he came to us and said he wanted to borrow money to see his feet. We raised money for him to go, but when he came back a few months later, I found that his feet had not been operated at all. Finally, after being pressed, he said that he had invested in a garment factory and lost all his money. Later, we took him to the big hospital ourselves and found that there was no possibility of treating his foot.”
“When my brother was a kid, my parents couldn’t afford him to have his feet treated and we felt guilty about it, so we tried to help him. But when he grew up, he kept borrowing money from us and never paid us back. Now his parents pay him 50 yuan a day for his pocket money.”
After knowing this, after some time, I asked Yang xuyou on WeChat: “did you know you couldn’t cure your foot, so you used your disability to raise money to cheat?”
Where is the crowdfunded lifeline money being spent
Yang Xuyou never returned to me. It wasn’t until I had asked five or six times that he replied impatiently, “What does it have to do with you? If I cheat, I cheat my friends and relatives, and they won’t Sue me.”
With a deep sigh, I blocked Yang Xuyou.
No money to compensate the responsible party, only crowdfunding
I had just got off the lift one morning when I heard a noise coming from the corner ward. As I hurried forward, a crowd of patients and their families stood in front of the ward, watching the bustle. I looked through the cracks and saw that the middle bed was full of people.
A fat woman shouted, “My brother will be fine. It will be fine when you finish your work with your family.
Another tall woman, her back to me, sneered. “Oh, did I let the tree fall on his leg? Is it our fault he didn’t know to run?”
Fat woman nu: “mama of, you don’t pay, I carry my younger brother to send your home, let him die in your home!”
Two nurses stood by to keep order, but it didn’t seem to work. It wasn’t until half a minute later, when four security guards with batons rushed up, that the two sides quieted down. Nurses and security guards chased away the onlookers and invited several loud women into the corridor, saying they would call the police if they dared to enter the ward again. Several women had to split into two and left.
I walked into the ward carefully, handing out leaflets to everyone in the ward. Some took them, some waved their hands directly.
In the middle of the bed lay a man of about forty, with a pale face and hair like a chicken coop. He stared blankly at the ceiling. At the end of the bed stood a pretty girl of about twenty, with her hair tied up, who looked like an easy person to touch. I stepped forward and handed her a leaflet: “I am ‘XX raise’, you see if there is anyone who needs help.”
The girl picked up the leaflet and scanned a few eyes, staring at me and saying: “Are you a volunteer of XX Fundraising?”
I took out my work permit from my backpack and handed it to the girl. “I am a worker and I am paid.” Then pretending not to know, he asked: “What were you arguing about here?”
The girl returned the leaflet, “Nothing.”
I did not receive xuan receive sheet, but toward the girl smile: “you take see, if really have need?”
In fact, I have an ulterior motive. Maybe if they apply for a serious illness to raise money, the dispute over medical expenses will be settled.
At noon, while I was eating in the fast food restaurant below the hospital, WeChat sent me a message: “I am the girl you sent me the flyers this morning, the one that had the fight.” She told me to wait at the place where she was eating, saying she was coming to see me about something.
The girl arrived, sitting across the table with a flyer in her hand, “I was wondering if I could apply to raise money for my father’s sick boy who broke his leg by a tree.”
It turned out that she was the daughter of the responsible party. I pretended to be calm and asked, “Don’t you have money for the medical bills?”
The girl nodded. “My family is from the countryside and I can’t earn a few dollars a year. Besides, my father just invited people from the village to help cut down the tree. It was he who was accidentally hit by the tree, so we are jointly liable.”
Not being a lawyer, I couldn’t argue with her, so I changed the subject: “How much has the injury been treated now?”
“More than 30000. There will be a follow-up operation, which will probably cost more than 10,000 yuan, plus some miscellaneous things, which could be closer to 100,000 yuan.”
Obviously, the girl exaggerated the amount of treatment, she wanted to cure the injured without paying any money. But since I was not a doctor and could not question the exact cost, I agreed to help raise money for her, and she was grateful.
I took the girl’s phone, scanned the QR code and entered the page of serious illness fundraising. Enter “$100,000” below the fundraising target. Then there was the headline: “How about, ‘We can’t afford to help neighbor whose leg was broken by a tree, ask good samaritans to help him get treatment’?”
The girl frowned and said, “Isn’t that good? It’s like my family is responsible for the whole thing, and I started it because I had no money to pay for it.”
I put my phone down on the kitchen table and looked at her. “I don’t care about the division of responsibility between your family and the injured,” I said. “But for a fundraise that’s being launched in your name, I have to write realistically, and you can also think of a good headline based on the facts.”
The girl waved, “It doesn’t matter. So write it.”
I learned from the girl that the injured person’s name was Li Qiang. He was unmarried and had no immediate family. He had an elder brother and an elder sister. The girl’s name is Wang Rong. She just worked in a state-owned enterprise last year with a salary of only 3,000 yuan. Due to high expenses, she has no savings.
Next you need medical records, a doctor’s certificate, and a photograph of the injured person. I had to go back to the ward with Wang Rong and find the attending doctor. Generally, doctors are supportive of the serious disease crowdfunding for patients under their management, but they don’t ask how much money is raised.
Back in the ward, I asked Li Qiang for his bank card number so I could collect after the fundraising. Lying on the bed, he said, “I don’t have a bank card. I only have a social security card, ok?”
Wang Rong took out a construction bank card from her bag and handed it to me. I looked at Wang Rong, did not answer, but to Li Qiang said: “You think carefully, there is a four line card? That is, the bank card of China, industry and commerce, agriculture and construction.”
Li Qiang continues to scratch his head: “This I really can’t remember.” Then pointed to Wang Rong: “You use her.”
I had no choice — it was a matter of personal interest. I didn’t think Li Qiang would care so much. But due to The presence of Wang Rong and several family members, I can not say.
Unexpectedly, Wang Rong said, “This is a fundraising in my name. What’s the matter with my bank card?”
I turned to Wang Rong and said, “You are not the immediate family of the injured. When you want to withdraw the money after the fundraising, you will have to issue a certificate in the village.”
Wang Rong threw the bank card into the bag and said angrily: “How can I go to prove it? Then I won’t!”
“It’s up to you,” I said. “Even if you don’t raise the money, your family will still have to pay the injured.”
“All right, all right, then we’ll get the proof.” She took the card out of her bag and threw it on the bedside table.
Half a month later, wang rong asked me tentatively on WeChat: “now no one has donated money, I’m going to withdraw money. Ask, my home compensate the money that is left after the injury how to do?”
I know what she means: Through her fundraising record, I know she has raised more than 85,000, but apparently Li qiang has not spent that much. In cases like this, the law does not specify the attribution of the fundraising, but as a fundraising platform staff member, I would prefer to give all the fundraising to the injured.
To find out what Wang Rong was thinking, I replied: “What do you think?”
Wang rong replied cautiously: “In fact, the donation was forwarded by my college classmates and colleagues and they took the lead in donating. No one from Uncle Li’s side donated at all.”
I said, “This is a serious illness fundraising by Li Qiang as a patient, so all the fundraising should belong to him. Besides, even if Li Qiang can walk now, he will have to recuperate for a long time, so the extra money can be his compensation.”
As soon as the message got out, Wang rong seemed impatient and immediately sent me a voicemail: “But this fundraiser is launched in my name? To say the least, it was just because my family couldn’t afford to lose money that I started it. What’s the relationship with Li Qiang?”
“How much did Li Qiang spend at the hospital?” I asked.
Wang replied by voice: “It has already cost him more than 50,000 yuan. My family is going to pay him 20,000 yuan for lost work and nutrition. There wasn’t much money left.”
I calculate didn’t see the detail of the hospital, also know Wang Rong told a lie: “now the countryside has cooperative medical treatment, like Li Qiang such can submit an expense account more than 50%?”
After a few minutes, Wang rong replied: “That’s a different matter. My family should compensate Li Qiang according to the law how much, a cent won’t be little. But this is our money.”
I took my phone and thought about it for a long time, but there was no reply. I know that whatever I say now, Wang Rong will retort that she is determined to hog the money.
A few days later, I asked wang rong on WeChat: “has the problem of fundraising allocation been solved?”
It was not until the evening that Wang rong replied: “It’s settled. I have given all the money I raised to Li Qiang. Thank you for your concern.”
I took the phone, think for a long time, think this is not Wang Rong’s style. I found out the fund-raising record, dug out Li Qiang’s phone and called over. After a few words of greeting, I learned that Li Qiang was recuperating at home and his legs could walk slowly, but he could not work yet.
“How much did you get in the end?” Let me cut to the chase.
The telephone that, Li Qiang side hard clap a leg, the side sigh way: “Ah, you quick don’t mention, because this matter I and her home return make go to police station. Her family only wanted to give me 20,000 yuan as compensation, but my brother and sister did not agree, so they took people to her house to make trouble, and in the end there was almost a fight. When the police came, they took us all to the police station.”
‘What did the police say?
“Just tell us not to fight and let us take the money to court. In the end, my brother and sister took people to her house to make a scene again. In the end, my family gave me 30,000 yuan in compensation.”
“Then your brother and sister are not bad. When you need help, they ask for it for you, although in the wrong way.”
Li Qiang sighed: “Anyway, I only got 10,000 yuan in the end. My brother borrowed 10,000 yuan from me, and my sister took 10,000 yuan and said she would save it for me, but I guess I’ll never get it back.”
Holding the phone, I didn’t know what to say and could only change the topic: “Did you and Wang Rong go to the village to open a certificate?”
“Yes, but at that time her family did not mention the question of distribution. They did not mention it until the money had arrived. In fact, I am close to her family and have a good relationship. I often walk around. But now that there’s a row, they’re definitely not leaving.”
I thought serious illness fundraising would help them resolve their conflict, but I didn’t think it would backfire.
If it had not raised money, it would probably be a happy family
A patient in his 60s leaned over the bed, wearing glasses, holding a handout to raise money for his serious illness. A minute or so later, flinging the flyer on his nightstand, he asked me blandly: “Are you from the country? Or a private enterprise?”
I stood at the end of the bed with my hands on my chest and a smile on my face telling the truth: “Private enterprise.”
The old man looked me up and down with puzzled eyes. “According to the leaflet, it’s completely free. How do you make a profit?”
In fact, I don’t know exactly what the company relies on to make profits, so I had to observe that: “At present, the company is in the stage of public praise. After accumulating a certain number of users, it will develop other businesses. It’s a profitable business, like the insurance companies are now offering.”
The old man picked up the flyer from the bedside table and looked at it.
I felt I could no longer be passive: “Uncle, what’s wrong with you? How much has it cost me so far?”
The old man took off his glasses and pointed his finger at his head. “The doctor said there was some kind of brain aneurysm in there, and he would have to perform a craniotomy. He told me to prepare 100,000 dollars first.”
I take advantage of opportunity to take a way: “this is a not small expense ah, your economic pressure big?”
“How come there’s no pressure? Both of my sons are going to use their credit cards.”
“Would you like me to help you apply for the money? It’s free anyway, and you have nothing to lose.”
The old man thought for a moment, “Young man, you wait here for a while, my wife has gone downstairs to buy dinner, I want to discuss with her.”
Ten minutes later, the old man’s wife came back. She took out three lunch boxes from the plastic bag she was carrying and opened them one by one. They were steamed eggs, shredded potatoes, and a box of rice.
After the old man explained to his wife, the old woman smiled and said to me, “We can’t decide this matter either. You want me to call my two sons and ask them first.”
I smiled and said, “You don’t have to ask. After all, you are lightening their burden.”
The old lady still insisted on making phone calls to the two sons, but did not expect that the two sons did not agree to fundraising — the eldest son felt embarrassed, in the circle of friends to raise money is begging, shame; The younger son also refused with great vividness, thinking that as a son, he should take the initiative to shoulder the responsibility without the help of others.
Although I lost a commission some lost, but some touched, before the disease, this is still a happy family.
After about 10 days, I was transferred to the same room again (every 7 to 10 days, I had to go through the intensive care unit in the city). The old man had an irregular gash on his head and appeared to have had an operation. Apparently he no longer needed help. I smiled at him and turned to leave.
Just then I heard a shout behind me, “Wait a minute, brother.”
Turning my head, I saw a middle-aged man in his 30s, sitting at the bedside of the patient, waving to me. He was rather fat, and wore a working suit from a fertilizer factory in the city. He stood up, asked for a handout to raise money for his serious illness, and glanced around. “My dad’s had an operation,” he said, “Can I raise money now?”
Our company expressly stipulates that the money raised for serious illness must be used for the treatment of the patient. The operation cost is the highest during the hospitalization period, which has been solved. It is not reasonable to raise money again, and friends will feel no need to donate money at that time. I was in a quandary. “How much have you spent on your father? How much more is likely to follow?”
The middle-aged man rubbed his hands: “My brother and I each spent more than 30,000 yuan, but we are both workers, don’t earn much money, so we use credit cards. I don’t know how much more, but the doctor told us to prepare 100,000 yuan first.”
He was obviously hiding the truth from me, but I thought about it and decided to help him raise money. After all, he had a credit card and I could get a cut myself.
The middle-aged man brought me a plastic stool and sat on the edge of the bed. The old man sat up, too. I took the mobile phone of the middle-aged man, scanned the QR code and entered the page of serious illness fundraising. Below the target amount, I thought for a moment and wrote “100,000 yuan”.
The middle-aged man pointed at the screen: “Can you write 200,000?”
I looked up at him. “Didn’t the doctor say $100,000? In fact, this’ 100,000 ‘is a little too much. It should only be’ 40,000. ‘”
The middle-aged man looked at the patient on the bed at the end of the ward and whispered, “He is just like my father, with an aneurysm, but he has raised nearly 200,000 yuan.” Then he gave me an ambiguous look. “If you think about it, you will know.”
I didn’t raise money for the patient, apparently someone from a competitor company did (there are three serious illness fundraising companies in my city). I hesitated. “No, the money raised for a serious illness must be used for the patient’s treatment. What are you going to do with the extra money?”
The middle-aged man did not expect that I would ask, hesitating to say: “This… My mom was sick taking care of my dad. I’m still at home, and my mother is spending money.”
I tried to hold back my anger. “You can apply separately when your mother is ill. I’m only applying for the money to treat your father.”
“Line, line, that you apply for 100 thousand first.”
Based on the identity information provided by the middle-aged man and the patient, I learned that his name was He Dawei. After filling in the required information one by one, there is only the last item, the card number of the bank card receiving the payment. I asked if He Dawei’s father had a bank card of the four big banks. The old man said yes, but he was at home. Then He Dawei took out a bank of China card and handed it to me. “Just use this card.”
I said, “Is this your bank card? It is better to provide your father’s bank card, because he is the party.”
“I am the son of the client. Can I get away with this money?”
In order not to cause financial disputes, the company stipulates that the patient’s bank card number should be filled in as much as possible, as well as the bank card of the patient’s immediate relatives. I thought for a while, and finally filled in the card number of He Dawei.
After about 20 days, I suddenly received a call from He Dawei: “What kind of company are you? Frozen my dad’s fundraiser, never got on the card.”
I was puzzled: “Did someone complain that you applied for more money than your father spent on medical treatment?”
He Dawei curses way on the phone: “this who his mama know, should not you and your company want to embezzle my money.”
I want to cry no tears, in the heart very regret to he Dawei applied for 100 thousand, it seems that most is to know their family situation of acquaintances to complain to the company. I had a very upset, called the company, customer service told me: He Dawei’s brother is the application of the freeze.
My joji monk at a loss, this is how to return a responsibility?
In order not to let He Dawei misunderstand, I hurried from another hospital to take a taxi to he Dawei’s father’s ward, only to find that they had been discharged. I called He Dawei and he told me to go to his house. I had to get into a taxi again.
Given the address, I went to one of the old 1990s buildings, found one, climbed to the seventh floor and rang the doorbell. He Dawei saw me, rather impatient to greet me into the living room. The sitting room is more than 20 smooth rice, the sofa of black already began to drop skin, the LCD TV of a 40 inches is hanged on the wall, appear a bit antisocial. He dawei’s father leaned back on the sofa with a floral pillow under his head and stared listlessly at me. His wife, who was busy in the kitchen, poured me a glass of water when she saw me coming.
As soon as I sat down on the sofa, He Dawei asked me what the hell was going on.
I took a sip of water and asked, “Has there been any argument among your family members about the money?”
He Dawei dun once, answer: “have no ah, we why want to quarrel for this money?”
I shook my head and stood up. “I can’t help you if you don’t tell the truth.”
Hurriedly supporting me, He said hesitantly that he and his brother had quarrelled several times over the $67,000-plus payment. David thinks he started the fundraising, and his colleagues and friends donated more, so he should share more.
As a staff member of the fundraising platform, I have no reason to participate in the family economic disputes of the parties involved. But I can’t keep the money frozen forever. It would be bad for the company’s reputation. “I said:” Or you two brothers do not share the money, directly to your parents, they are old, small pain also need to spend money.
“But I used my credit card!”
He Dawei’s father screwed up his head. “How much money have you only done? My health insurance covers most of it.”
Clearly displeased, He looked at his father and said, “My friend and colleague donated a lot of money. Will you return the favor?”
I had to compromise the proposal: “Maybe you and your brother list the donation details one by one, their friends and colleagues donated their own money, mutual friends and strangers donated, the two of you.”
They finally grudgingly agreed to my proposal. As I was leaving, I said to He Dawei’s father, “After your younger son lifts the freeze, as the party concerned, you still need to explain the situation to our company, so that the money can be paid to your older son.”
On the way back, I have been wondering whether the two brothers could have united as one and done what they could to help their father heal if they had not raised the money themselves.
For most people, fundraising for serious illnesses is still the best cure for poverty. But for a small percentage of people, I just hope they stay true to their original intentions in the face of this windfall.
