U.S. President Donald Trump told WABC radio on Dec. 20 that his team is “getting closer and closer” to successfully challenging the election results in key battleground states. He was also criticized for suppressing freedom of the press in the U.S. media to a frightening degree. “Fake news” has become “corrupt news. This is similar to Secretary of State Pompeo‘s recent criticism.
Trump: We’re getting closer to successfully challenging the election results in key battleground states. I hope you (media) let everyone know that we’re actually very close. He criticized some of the U.S. mainstream media saying, “The fake news won’t tell you that. They don’t want to talk about it. They’re trying to suppress it. We don’t have freedom of the press at all. The press is being suppressed. It’s a terrible thing that’s happening in our country. It’s been going on (for a long time), it started a long time ago, but it’s reached this level that it’s become a terrible thing. It’s not freedom of the press and we’ve got to bring it back because the press is so suppressed and so dishonest.” He added, “I don’t even call it fake news anymore. I call it corrupt news (corrupt news).”
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently criticized the U.S. media, saying that in many cases you see the U.S. media beholden to the Chinese Communist Party because of its interests. He said, “The media giants have a business [in China], right? China has 1.4 billion people and they want to serve that market, so they want to sell movies or streaming products there, so they often bow down on bended knee (to the Chinese Communist Party).” The secretary of state added, “So unfortunately, that means that their news outlets are also often reluctant to report on these Chinese (CCP) violations; and worse, sometimes they (the U.S. media) are actually promoting China (CCP). That’s the worst of it.
