The U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said today that Russia is “clearly” behind the hacking of several U.S. government agencies, as well as many countries around the world.
Microsoft said late on the 17th that it had informed more than 40 customers who had been compromised by the malicious software. Internet security experts said that through malicious software, hackers can unrestrainedly access major government systems, power supply networks and other public facilities from the Internet.
There is a blatant intrusion that basically uses third-party software to embed (malicious) code in U.S. government systems,” Mike Pompeo said in an interview with a talk radio program.
He said, “This is a very concerning intrusion, and I think I can now state unequivocally that the Russians are involved.
Microsoft President Brad Smith said in an article that about 80 percent of the customers who were hacked were located in the United States, while others like Belgium, the United Kingdom, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Spain and the United Arab Emirates were also found to have been hacked.
According to sources familiar with the hacking of Microsoft, it is suspected that the Russian hackers through the U.S. information technology company SolarWinds software.
