The spread of the Covid-19 virus in the United Kingdom has created a new tension. Many areas, including the capital London, have been on maximum alert since the end of the week, with the vast majority of the British population subject to more stringent health restrictions.
As a result of the resurgence of the Covid-19 virus outbreak, the UK has again imposed the strictest war restrictions in London, the capital, as well as in the east and southeast. From Saturday, public places such as restaurants, bars and hotels in London will have to close for the third time since the outbreak began.
D from London on Saturday (December 19, 2020), 38 million Britons, or nearly 68 percent of the UK population, are on maximum alert for the epidemic, or alert level 3, as of this weekend. Restaurants, bars, hotels, museums and performance venues have been closed as a result of the restrictions. London, which was hit hard by the second wave of the outbreak, was already under the strictest health restrictions on Wednesday. Matthew Hancock, the British health secretary, did not hide his concern. In one week, the number of new cases confirmed in the Southeast rose by 46 percent, and in the East by an even higher two-thirds, or 66 percent.
Prime Minister Johnson under pressure
In response to the threat of a third wave of the epidemic, Britain’s health secretary wants to reassess lax measures for the Christmas season, such as reducing the length and frequency of parties. But Prime Minister Johnson does not want to be blamed by public opinion for hindering people’s holiday plans. The British prime minister is now under enormous pressure at home. Northern Ireland has announced a third city closure for six weeks starting a week from next Saturday, Dec. 26. Wales will be closed for an indefinite period starting ten days later on Monday, December 28.
