Senior Republican Senator Lindsey Graham called for a special prosecutor to investigate Hunter

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., speaks at a hearing in Washington November 10, 2020.

Lindsey Graham, the senior Republican senator, said on Wednesday that he supported the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Hunter, son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal quoted a person familiar with the matter as saying that President Donald Trump intends to appoint a special counsel to investigate fraud allegations in the November election and issues related to Hunter Biden.

“I absolutely call for [the appointment of] a special prosecutor to look into everything that Hunter Biden has done in Ukraine [occupied by Russian agents] and whether any of his activities with the Chinese [Communist] government are in conflict with the Biden administration.” Lindsey Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, told reporters on Capitol Hill.

Mr Hunt revealed last week that he had learned he was being investigated by the US attorney’s office in Delaware. Because many of his business deals abroad were made when his father, Joe Biden, was vice president. The investigation is said to involve tax and other issues.

“Let me just say this: If you think a special counsel is needed to look into the Trump team’s Russia related issues, how can you say That Hunter Biden doesn’t need a special counsel?” Graham added.

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team spent more than a year investigating alleged “collusion” between the Trump campaign and Russia, and ultimately found no evidence of collusion or cooperation.

Graham cited concerns about Hunter’s tax evasion charges, as well as recently disclosed emails showing Joe Biden’s involvement in his son’s transactions. In one email, Mr. Hunt referred to his father and a Chinese businessman as “office colleagues.”

“One needs to look at his business dealings with China to see if there is any criminal activity, but mainly to see what kind of conflict there might be with the Biden administration.” Graham said.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the president has recently been instructing advisers to look for someone to fill the job. White House officials, congressional Allies and other presidential Allies have also urged the president to appoint a special counsel, another person familiar with the matter said.

Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff, has said the president intends to seek a special counsel to investigate election fraud and wants him to act quickly, a person familiar with the matter said.

In addition to Graham, other Republicans in Congress are pushing for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate Hunter.

Ken Buck, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, also wrote to Attorney General William Barr earlier this month urging him to investigate Mr. Hunter.

Joe Biden responded to the question for the first time.

“Are you confident that Hunter Biden has done nothing wrong?” Biden was asked by a reporter at an event in Wilmington.

“I’m very confident.” Biden replied.
