FT: US to allow manufacturers to sell chips to Huawei’s non-5G businesses

According to the Financial Times, a number of people who recently attended a U.S. briefing said that U.S. officials have indicated that the U.S. will allow more and more chip companies to supply components to Huawei as long as they don’t use the chips in its 5G business.

One semiconductor executive involved said, “The U.S. Department of Commerce has been telling companies in recent conversations that while Huawei’s supply licenses are handled for denial purposes, this can be overcome if it can be proven that your technology doesn’t support 5G.”
