India has recorded the world’s highest number of new cases in a single day, with more than 78,000 people infected

New Delhi: India has confirmed more than 78,761 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said today, surpassing the previous single-day record set by the US.

According to statistics, the United States reported 77,638 new cases on July 17, setting a new record for the number of new infections in a single day.

India, with a population of 1.3 billion, has become the third most infected country in the world, with more than 3.5 million confirmed cases so far, behind only the United States and Brazil.
