COVID-19: Side effects of Pfizer vaccine 4 people had facial paralysis after vaccination

Us drug maker Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech developed a vaccine for COVID-19 that was granted an emergency license by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday. On the same day, the C.D.C. confirmed that four people had developed Bell’s Palsy, or facial paralysis, after being vaccinated.

The people who experienced side effects were in the non-placebo group, who became ill within 48 days of receiving the vaccine within 3 solstice days, the FDA vaccine expert said. The FDA noted that the number of cases with side effects was consistent with the expected rate for the total number of people vaccinated. People who develop Bell’s Palsy usually recover within 10 to 21 days. The cause is inflammation of facial nerves caused by a viral infection.

The CDC’s Immunization Advisory Committee confirmed on Friday that there is no known or expected cause-and-effect relationship between the vaccine and Bell’s palsy, and that it will continue to monitor people for side effects.
