Malaysia’s port beverage punch hidden ten million dollars of heroin Customs pulled 19-year-old receiving man Ming to court

The Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) cracked a case of drug possession in beverage powder. On the day before yesterday (9), the Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) officers of the Airport Division inspected two air parcels of what was reported to be beverage powder arriving in Hong Kong from Malaysia at the Hong Kong International Airport. The customs officers found suspicious images of the packages through X-ray inspection, so they opened the packages for further investigation and seized about 7 kilograms of suspected heroin inside the packages, with a market value of about HK$10 million. Among the 30 packets of beverage punches, 14 packets contained the suspected heroin.

After investigation, the Customs and Excise Department arrested a 19-year-old man in Tuen Mun yesterday (10) for receiving the goods, he reported to be unemployed. He was charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs and will be arraigned in the Shatin Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (12).

The Customs and Excise Department said that according to the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in dangerous drugs is a serious offence and is liable on conviction to a maximum fine of HK$5 million and life imprisonment. The C&ED also called on the public to be vigilant and not to participate in drug trafficking activities for financial gain, not to accept any person’s invitation or commission to transport controlled goods into or out of Hong Kong, and not to assist others in transporting goods without ascertaining their nature. In addition, people should avoid giving their personal information or addresses to others for the purpose of receiving packages or goods.
