The damage is done! Japanese container ship with 1,816 containers overboard and $50 million flying

The container ship ONE Apus, owned by ONE Japan, was on its way from China to the U.S. when 1,816 containers fell into the sea, 64 of which were loaded with hazardous materials such as fireworks, batteries and ethanol.

ONE Apus encountered bad weather at sea on November 30, causing 1,816 containers to fall into the sea. The ship’s crew immediately conducted a safety inspection of the remaining cargo and notified nearby countries to coordinate a search to ensure that the containers would not cause environmental damage.

According to ONE Apus, once the ship and cargo were confirmed to be safe, a preliminary assessment of the cargo was conducted to ensure that it was safe to dismantle the containers and to inventory the missing goods and assess their loss.
