Poet Wang Zang and Wife Arrested for Sedition

The famous poet Wang Zang (Wang Yuwen) was arrested on July 3, 2020 by the prosecutor’s office of Chuxiong Prefecture in Yunnan province on charges of inciting subversion of state power, while his wife Wang Liqin was arrested on July 24 on the same charges for her twitter appeals for her husband, which also implicated her.

Wang is currently being held at the Chuxiong City Detention Center in Yunnan Province, while his wife Wang Liqin is being held at the Chuxiong Prefecture Detention Center.

Wang Zang, formerly known as Wang Yuwen, is a pioneering poet, freelance writer, film and television writer, a member of the Independent Chinese PEN, and a member of the Chinese Free Culture Movement, who was arrested on May 30, 2020, after being abruptly taken away by public security authorities in Chuxiong City, Yunnan Province, on suspicion of inciting subversion.

Wang Zang’s wife, Wang Liqin, was arrested on July 24, 2020 for inciting subversion of state power after Wang Zang’s arrest and for appealing for her husband on the Internet.

Wang Zang’s four young children were left without parental care in the care of their grandmother.
