Russia’s discovery of world’s largest gold mine: proven reserves of 40 million ounces

Russian gold miner Polyus says its soon-to-be-developed Siberian deposit, the Sukhoi log gold deposit, is the world’s largest gold mine with proven reserves of 40 million ounces. Once developed, it is believed this will also have an impact on the total supply of gold. The deposit accounts for about a quarter of Russia’s total unmined gold and is expected to make Polyus the world’s second-largest gold miner in terms of proven reserves, the company said. Currently, the world’s largest gold miner is Canada-based Barrick Gold Corp.
