Germany recommends mixed vaccine to fight Delta variant virus

The German government is advising people to mix their vaccinations to fight the Delta Coronavirus.

The German Standing Committee on Vaccination recommended this week that people who have already received one dose of the AstraZeneca New Crown vaccine should receive a second dose of the vaccine from Pfizer or Merdner to fight the Delta New Crown variant.

The standing committee said the immune response from the combination of New Crown vaccine was “significantly better” than two doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine. Medical experts began studying the combination vaccination after local young women reported side effects from the AstraZeneca vaccine.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has already received a combination of vaccines. Her first dose was the AstraZeneca vaccine and her second was the Merdner vaccine.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization, warned Friday that the Delta mutated virus “is dangerous and continues to evolve and mutate, which requires continuous assessment and careful adjustment of public health responses.”

Tandse said, “Delta virus has been found in at least 98 countries and is now spreading rapidly in countries with low and high vaccination rates.”

“I urge leaders around the world to work together to ensure that 70 percent of all people in every country are vaccinated by this time next year,” Tandse said, “This is the best way to slow the epidemic, save lives, drive a truly global economic recovery and prevent an even more dangerous variant of the virus from gaining the upper hand in the future. We call on leaders to have at least 10 percent of the population in all countries vaccinated by September of this year.”

India had 44,111 new confirmed cases of new coronavirus and 738 deaths on the day, the health department said Saturday. It was the sixth consecutive day that India had fewer than 50,000 new cases of new coronavirus.

Figures provided by the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center show the total number of confirmed cases of new coronaviruses in India is 30.5 million and in the United States 33.7 million.
