“One Belt, One Road” eyes Hamburg Chinese proprietor to save the country

According to Deutsche Welle, the German-listed Hamburg Port and Logistics (HHLA) is currently negotiating an agreement with China Ocean Shipping Group Co. for a stake in its port called Tollerort.

German media quoted experts as saying that China’s entry into the port of Hamburg would fill the biggest gap in its maritime silk route and even lead to access to the Italian port of Adria. This could be a decisive move in Beijing’s expansion strategy.

Deutsche Welle says with a note of warning that one can see the Chinese proprietor behind all 14 ports in Europe. This is an important strategic deployment of China’s Belt and Road. While bilateral investment agreements between China and the EU have been suspended due to human rights issues in Xinjiang and Hong Kong, the cooperation agreement between the port of Hamburg and China does not stop there. No objections to this have been raised on the German side either.
