First animal death from martial lung infection, India closes tiger reserve

The first animal death from Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) has occurred in India, killing a lioness.

According to CNN, the National Tiger Conservation Authority of India’s Ministry of Environment has issued a new order stating that the recent death of a female Asiatic lion indicates that the outbreak is likely to spread from humans to wildlife populations in specific areas, and that similar transmission could occur in tiger reserves.

The order states that in order to prevent the tiger and other wildlife from being affected, all tiger reserves in India have been suspended for visits by tourists, and subsequent adjustments will be made depending on the situation.

The local government has already examined 28 elephants in a forest reserve in the same province in an attempt to clarify whether the epidemic has spread.
