Tong Daochi, a former member of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and former secretary of the Sanya Municipal Party Committee, was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement. The Supreme People’s Procuratorate announced that Tong Daochi, 56, has been arrested in accordance with the law.
Tong Daochi was investigated in November last year, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection accused him of defying the organization and acting on his own, grabbing illegal benefits, living a rotten life, engaging in power and money transactions, illegally receiving large amounts of money and other crimes.
Tong Daochi, who settled overseas in his early years, was called back to China by Zhou Xiaochuan. A number of mainland media reported on Friday (4) that the case of Tong Daochi’s alleged bribery was completed by the CPC State Supervisory Commission and sent to the procuratorial authorities for examination and prosecution. Tong Daochi fell in November last year and was “double-opened” on April 30 this year.
He studied in Canada and obtained his doctorate in the United States. The public information shows that Tong Daochi worked in the RAND Corporation, the World Bank and other U.S. think tanks and international organizations, and after returning to China for a long time in the Securities Regulatory Commission system, the main experience in foreign-related economic, foreign opening and other areas. It was disclosed by the mainland media that one of the reasons that prompted Tong to return to China was Zhou Xiaochuan, then chairman of the Securities Regulatory Commission.
In October 2018, Tong Daochi moved south to Hainan Province, where he was a member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, and in November, he also served as secretary of the Sanya Municipal Party Committee.
On September 6, 2019, Hainan’s “first tiger” after the 19th Communist Party Congress, Haikou Municipal Party Secretary Zhang Qi, who served as Sanya Municipal Party Secretary from October 2014 to November 2016, was investigated.
