Reuters: China’s popular social media account “Xiaohongshu” was shut down for speaking out on June 4

China’s popular online shopping social media account “Xiaohongshu” was shut down this Sunday for speaking out on June 4, Reuters revealed on June 6, citing sources familiar with the matter.

According to screenshots obtained by Reuters, the “Xiaohongshu” account posted via Weibo on June 4: “Tell me loudly: what day is today?” People familiar with the matter said that Redbook then quickly deleted the post.

But as of Sunday, there were no results on Chinese microblogs for the official Little Red Book account, although the Little Red Book app was still working. Some users who searched for “Xiaohongshu” also received official warnings such as “This account is now unavailable for viewing due to complaints of violations of laws, regulations and the relevant provisions of the Weibo Community Convention.

So far, “Little Red Book”, which is invested by Alibaba and Tencent, China Internet Information Office and Sina Weibo have not responded to media inquiries about the above incident.
