According to data from VariFlight, as of 11:40 a.m., 519 flights were cancelled at Baiyun Airport, accounting for 37.34 percent of the cancellations, including 300 and 219 inbound and outbound flights respectively, with 40.71 percent of inbound flights cancelled.

An airline source told Caixin.com that many passengers of flights to Guangzhou have been refunded since the afternoon of the 30th due to the impact of epidemic prevention and control. In terms of leaving Guangzhou, many passengers have changed their tickets to leave earlier than the previous flight due to the need for proof of nucleic acid testing to leave after 10pm.

The airlines have previously issued a free refund and change policy. on the evening of May 30, after the introduction of the nucleic acid proof requirement, China Southern Airlines and other airlines issued an adjustment to the refund and change policy to expand the scope of application of travel dates, etc.

On May 31, the Jiangxi CDC WeChat public number issued a message saying that it was not necessary to travel to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan and Maoming in the near future. from May 31, people returning to Gan from the above cities’ sojourns must hold proof of negative nucleic acid tests within 3 days before entering Gan.

Due to the recurrence of the epidemic and the recent thunderstorms and bad weather in Guangdong, the flight volume of Guangzhou and Shenzhen airports has been greatly affected.

Sources from Fei Changjun told Caixin that around May 25, thunderstorms and bad weather in Guangzhou and Shenzhen had a big impact on the flight volume, with more flight delays and cancellations on related routes, after which the flight volume increased slightly, but after 28, along with the increase of more confirmed cases, the flight volume dropped significantly.
