Brazil is suffering from the most severe drought in 91 years, hydroelectric power generation and agriculture are greatly affected, the weather agency has issued an emergency drought alert for June to September for the central and southern regions.
According to Reuters, after Brazil entered the water shortage in the Paraná River basin, the relevant units have confirmed that the south-central region will suffer a prolonged drought, and the rainfall across five states is expected to be quite scarce this summer.
In addition, the drought may make the Amazon rainforest and the Pantenal wetlands outbreak of wildfires, making the water shortage situation worse, so the authorities have begun to discuss how to adjust energy planning, so that water resources will not be overused.
