Chengdu University Highly Praises Mao Hongtao: A Good Cadre and Teacher

The drowning of Mao Hongtao, secretary of the Party Committee of Chengdu University, has caused a public outcry, with many netizens calling for a thorough investigation into the case.

Chengdu University released an obituary on Oct. 17, saying that a farewell ceremony for Mao Hongtao’s body will be held on the morning of Oct. 18. The obituary also praised Mao Hongtao for bringing overall improvement to the university’s work during his tenure, and emphasized that Mao was a good cadre, devoted to his work, and a good teacher who was loved by his students.

The police concluded after a preliminary investigation that Mao Hongtao’s death was a drowning and not a criminal case. It’s not a criminal case, but Mao Hongtao’s last letter to his friends in WeChat mentioned that he was marginalized by the interest groups headed by President Wang Qingyuan while working at Chengdu University, and that he himself was “bleeding badly.

The netizens are unforgiving about the background of Mao Hongtao’s case. According to Taiwan’s Central News Agency, some netizens have questioned the cause of Mao Hongtao’s death and demanded a thorough investigation; others believe that Mao Hongtao’s death is a sign of his will.

Others believe that the case reflects serious problems with China’s Ministry of Education, resulting in problems such as university bureaucracy, bogus and abusive writers.
