A herd of elephants recently left the Meng Yangzi Wildlife Sanctuary in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, and intruded into the human habitat. 15 wild elephants strutted like nobody’s business on May 27 in the avenue of Eshan County, Yuxi City, Yunnan. The people also evacuated early to avoid the danger. It is reported that the 15 elephants are heading towards Kunming, which is only 90 kilometers away.
According to local media reports, the 15 elephants left the Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve in mid-April and moved north, appearing in Eshan County on the 26th and 27th of this month, which was unsuccessfully blocked by the local government with large trucks and police cars. The elephant herd is currently only 120 kilometers from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province.
