French electric railcar sets world record for lowest energy consumption

On May 28th, the Urbanloop automated capsule electric railcar set a world record for lowest energy consumption per kilometer in Tomblaine, France.

On the 28th, Jean-Philippe Mangeot, founder of the Urbanloop project, and Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, Undersecretary of the French Ministry of Transport, were present at A press conference was held to present the automated capsule electric railcar of the “City Loop” project.

The automated capsule electric railcar is characterized by its automatic control by artificial intelligence, the use of electricity (no emission pollution), low energy consumption, the appearance of a capsule, each capsule carriage has two seats, the door is in the form of front and rear opening, the carriage can also transport bicycles or wheelchairs. It can be driven directly on the track, or the carriage can be placed in a tubular channel for transportation.

In the presence of more than one hundred people, the automated capsule electric railcar attempted to challenge the world record for lowest energy consumption and finally succeeded in setting a new record, consuming only 0.05 kilowatt hours per kilometer (0.05kWh/km), equivalent to 0.47 euro cents per kilometer (0.47c€, breaking the original record of 1 euro cent), with a maximum speed of 52 kilometers per hour.

The French Undersecretary of Transport, Jean-Baptiste Gerbary, was also accompanied by Jean-Philippe Manchaux and the two rode together on the automated capsule electric railcar.

The “Urbanloop” (Urban Loop) is scheduled to carry its first passengers in time for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
