Vaccinations have been effective Israel announces it will end vaccination measures

Israel’s Ministry of Health said on 23rd local time that it announced the termination of all vaccination measures in Israel in light of the effectiveness of the vaccination against Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19).

According to Reuters, the majority of Israel’s population has been vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech, with about 92 percent of people aged 50 or older having been vaccinated or recovered, and Israel is gradually restarting economic activity after three blockades; only 12 new cases were confirmed in Israel on May 22, well below the January peak of more than 10,000 cases per day.

Israeli Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said there will be no further extensions of Israel’s epidemic restrictions, which means Israel’s epidemic precautions and green pass system will be lifted as of June 1; Edelstein said Israel’s economy and people will have more breathing room, though he cautioned that the government could resume epidemic precautions at any time if the situation is reversed.
