U.S. media exclusive: Senator Cotton says critical race doctrine “destructive to military morale and cohesion”

U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Texas) told Breitbart News Friday that critical race theory undermines the U.S. military.

Critical race theory is a neo-Marxist ideological and sociological paradigm that frames human affairs within a class struggle along racial lines.

Cotton stated, “Whether in general military academies, or in more specialized military education, or just in routine military training, teaching these critical race theories to young soldiers is particularly bad because military men and women will see their partners around them, as representatives of racial groups, rather than as their own comrades in arms who may have sacrificed their lives in defense of their country and their fellow soldiers. “

Cotton noted that this is an enemy of the United States, an internal destruction of the U.S. Armed Forces through left-wing politics. He said, “If I were in foreign intelligence, I really can’t think of anything that could do more to undermine the morale and cohesion of the U.S. military than critical race theory.”

Cotton told reporters that “Democrats and the broader left, through the framework of critical race theory, are pushing racial politics with increasing aggression. Almost every bill that comes before Congress these days has affirmative action quotas and set-asides. I want to remind our listeners that these are blatantly unconstitutional, but this is the modern Democratic Party. They see the whole world through the lens of race, essentially through the lens of Marxism, where they believe that there are only oppressors and oppressed people in the world. This is completely antithetical to the American ideal.”

He concluded, “This view is extremely unpopular among normal Americans, but very popular in college towns, in the left-wing media, and in our mainstream media.”

Cotton is a retired U.S. Army officer who has completed combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also served in the Old Guard and has published a book, Sacred Duty: A Soldier’s Tour at Arlington National Cemetery.

The “Old Guard” is the oldest regiment of the U.S. 3rd Infantry, the oldest regiment in the active Regular Army, first organized in 1784, and has been the official honor guard of the U.S. Army since 1948.
