The race was started at 9 a.m. with the same starting point for all three event categories. The 100-kilometer race route is equipped with nine clocking points, the runners have to complete the clocking within the closing time specified in each timing point, otherwise they will quit the race.
According to the lost rescue command command pointed out that at about 1:00 on the 22nd, 100 km cross-country race high altitude section 20 km to 31 km, by the sudden change of extreme weather, local hail, freezing rain, high winds and other catastrophic weather, the temperature plummeted, the participants appeared unwell, loss of temperature, etc., some participants lost, the race stopped.
According to the route map, this section of the course is located near the second punching point (24 km) and the third punching point (32.5 km), 8 km between the two punching points, all climbing sections, stone and sand mixed road conditions, many places are very steep, even cars can not reach, coupled with the encounter of high winds, rainfall bad weather, runners have withdrawn from the race, but due to the loss of temperature, many runners Unable to move, carrying insulation blankets are also blown by high winds.
Jingtai County People’s Government submitted a report on the rescue application, and after receiving the local report, the Gansu Provincial Government mobilized more than 700 people into the search and rescue. But due to the race section of the continental terrain complex, the night temperature fell again, search and rescue is difficult. According to Beijing Daily, since its inception in 2018, the Yellow River Stone Forest Mountain Marathon 100km trail race has been held for four consecutive sessions. This year’s race features three events: a 5-kilometer health run, a 21-kilometer cross-country race and a 100-kilometer cross-country race. Participants must be at least 18 years old before May 22, 2021, and less than 60 years old in the 100 km group, and also need to submit to the organizing committee a certificate of completion results of the same level of events in the recent year.
Some runners commented that the course has a certain degree of difficulty, with an overall elevation of about 2,000 meters and a large part of the course in no-man’s land. 20 hours of closing time also has a certain threshold.
