North Korean cargo ship off Japan tilted drifting 21 ship crew rescued

A North Korean cargo ship with 21 crew members sent a distress message at about 10:55 p.m. yesterday (21) off Japan, saying that it was tilted because of water; the Japanese side was reported and sent a ship to respond, but fortunately all the crew members on board took an escape boat and were all rescued by another North Korean ship sailing nearby.

The North Korean cargo ship, CHONG BONG (about 5,500 tons displacement), was leaving the port of Cheongjin, North Korea, and was heading to the port of Songlim, North Korea. The ship was in the sea about 50 km north of Okijima-cho, Shimane Prefecture, Japan, and requested assistance from the Maritime Safety Headquarters of the 8th District of Japan, indicating that “the cargo warehouse is taking on water.

The cargo ship tilted sharply to the right and drifted eastward at a speed of about 4 kilometers per hour. The Japanese side sent two patrol boats, aircraft and helicopters to monitor the situation, and did not find the ship’s goods or fuel spill.

Japan’s 8th District Maritime Security Headquarters said that the ship 21 people in the early morning today (22) at about 4:20, has been all rescued by the North Korean tanker sailing in the vicinity, but the cargo ship is still drifting in the sea tilt.

Cargo ship is currently drifting sea wind speed of about 12 meters per second, wave height of about 3 meters, the line of sight is not bad.
