House Republican Leader McCarthy Opposes Creation of Commission to Investigate Jan. 6 “Rebellion

The National Pulse reported on May 18 that House Democrats have introduced a bill to establish a commission to investigate the January 6 incident at the Capitol, and House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has announced his opposition.

McCarthy argued that Democrats refuse to investigate the violence caused by Democratic supporters and activists, and therefore, he himself “cannot support” the establishment of this so-called bipartisan commission.

McCarthy said, “Democrats are so focused on the Jan. 6 incident at the Capitol that they now want to set up a commission to investigate. Yet Democrats have ignored the violence that struck American cities, the attack on a Republican congressional baseball training event, and the deadly attack on a Capitol police officer by a mob on April 2 of this year. Given the political misdirection of this proposal, given the duplicative and potentially counterproductive nature of this proposal, and given the Speaker’s failure to review political violence that is tied to the Democratic Party, I cannot support this legislation.”

Other critics of the creation of the commission say the proposal is the Democrats renewing the story of Jan. 6, which has actually faded into oblivion.
