The Associated Press reported on May 19 that the Israeli Embassy in China is protesting the “blatant anti-Semitism” of the Communist Party’s official media, an overseas channel run by the Communist Party’s CCTV, which is discussing the violence in Gaza and elsewhere.
In a tweet, the Israeli embassy said, “We had hoped that the era of conspiracy theories about ‘Jews controlling the world’ was over, but unfortunately anti-Semitism has reared its ugly head again.”
The tweet said, “We are shocked to see blatant expressions of anti-Semitism in the official Chinese Communist media.”
A spokesman for the Israeli embassy said the embassy had nothing to add to its tweet and has so far received no response from the Communist Party’s Global Television Network, which is run by CCTV for foreign viewers.
On Tuesday’s episode of the CPC Globe-TV show, the host questioned whether U.S. support for Israel is truly based on shared democratic values, saying, “Some believe that U.S. pro-Israel policy can be traced back to wealthy American Jews, and the Jewish lobby, who have a powerful influence on U.S. foreign policymakers.”
The moderator then accused the United States, the Communist Party’s biggest geopolitical rival, of using Israel as a “beachhead” in the Middle East and as a proxy for defeating the pan-Arabist movement.
The Chinese Communist Party has long been a staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause, and in recent days the Chinese Foreign Ministry has accused the United States of blocking a UN Security Council statement condemning the violence.
However, since the establishment of formal diplomatic relations with Israel in 1992, the Communist Party and Israel have developed close economic, technological and military ties, including the Communist Party’s purchase of early models of Israeli drones.
