Two U.S. trainer planes collide in the air, pilot ejects and escapes with one minor injury

Two U.S. Navy trainer planes collided over South Texas on the 17th, one landed successfully and the other ejected two personnel, one of whom was slightly injured. The cause of the accident is still to be determined, the Navy and local officials have launched an investigation.

The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. on the 17th in Ricardo, Texas, about 80 miles southwest of Corpus Christi. According to a statement from the Chief of Naval Air Training, two British-made T-45C Goshawk trainers collided in the air.

One aircraft with a trainee and instructor landed unscathed at nearby Naval Air Station Kingsville; the other crashed a short distance away after the trainee and instructor ejected safely, with one person treated for minor injuries at Holy Body City Hospital.

The Chief of Naval Air Training (CNAT) reported no additional casualties or other collateral damage noted.

The T-45C is a trainer aircraft designed to train new pilots. Students train in the simulator and then conduct real-time flight training with the trainer.
