The Jerusalem Post reported Saturday that the IDF released an animated video that evening that provides an inside look at Hamas’ underground tunnel network known as the “subway. The underground tunnel network was destroyed by the Israeli Air Force on Thursday night in a massive attack on the Gaza Strip. That night, the IDF surprised Hamas by luring them into their underground tunnel network, which the IDF called the “subway,” and then blew up the underground tunnels, killing an estimated 300-400 Hamas operatives.
The underground tunnels, known as the “subway,” were built in the years following the 2014 war in the Gaza Strip, also known as Operation Protective Frontier. It is a network of dozens of kilometers of underground tunnels that crisscross Gaza, providing security for Hamas operatives from Israeli air incursions. In addition to the subway tunnel system, the IDF has discovered and destroyed at least 18 terror tunnels since 2014, according to a 2019 IDF report.
